GOES 10 Satellite Images (Western North America):

This used to be GOES 9. During the summer of 1998, the spacecraft began to experience problems with the momentum wheels that keep it in position and was replaced by GOES 10. Click here for more info.

the bar across the top of each image has the date and time that it was taken. The date comes first, MONTH DAY YEAR, followed by the time given in Greenwich Mean (or Zulu, hence the Z) Time. GMT (UTC) is 8 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time and 7 hours ahead of Pacific Daylight Time. To find the local time, just subtract 7 or 8 hours from the number given. If the time shown is 1830Z and we are on Daylight Savings Time, then the local time is 1830 - 0700 = 1130, or shortly before lunch. The images are usually no more than about half an hour old.
